Installation
Set up the Workday MCP server in Gumloop
Do this once to provision your hosted server URL.
Create a Gumloop account
To use this MCP, you need a Gumloop account. If you don't have one yet, you can create one for free.
Add and authorize the Workday server
In Gumloop, open Connectors and add Workday. Depending on the app, you'll either sign in via OAuth or paste an API key. Either way, the credential is stored securely in Gumloop.
Then use it in your client
Use in GumloopUse Workday in an agent
Once Workday is set up, just open any Gumloop agent, add Workday as a connector, and start chatting with the agent.

What is Workday MCP?
The Workday MCP server gives AI agents access to your Workday custom reports. It exposes one focused tool: agents can call your Workday Report-as-a-Service (RaaS) endpoints, download the report data, and hand it straight to the rest of an agent run. Because a Workday custom report can return almost anything your tenant exposes, that one tool lets an agent pull worker and employee records, roster and headcount data, management chains, time-off balances, compensation summaries, or any other report you have built in Workday.
If your people team or finance team spends mornings logging into Workday, running the same reports by hand, exporting to a spreadsheet, and pasting the numbers into a deck or a Slack update, an AI agent can take that off your plate. You point the agent at the report you already maintain, and it fetches the latest data on demand. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will pull the Workday report for you.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard that gives AI agents a way to connect to external tools and services. Instead of standing up an Integration System User, encoding Basic Auth headers, handling SSRF-safe requests, and parsing RaaS output in code, you add your Workday ISU username and password to Gumloop once. After that, you can pull live Workday report data just by chatting with your AI agent.

What you can do with Workday MCP on Gumloop
Download any Workday custom report by URL
Give the agent a RaaS report URL and it fetches the full report contents. This is the core of the server, and it works with any report format your tenant returns.
Pull employee and worker data
If your report returns worker records, an agent can retrieve profiles, job titles, departments, locations, hire dates, and other roster fields, then pass them downstream.
Get roster and headcount snapshots
Run a headcount or active-roster report on demand so an agent always works from current numbers instead of a stale export.
Read management and org-chain data
When your report includes supervisory or manager relationships, an agent can pull the reporting structure for org charts, routing, or notifications.
Retrieve HR and finance report data
Time-off balances, compensation summaries, and other HR or finance figures come through the same path, as long as the underlying custom report exposes them.
Hand report data to the rest of your agent
Each fetch is saved to your Gumloop storage, and an optional flag uploads it to your project workspace, so later steps in the same agent can read, transform, and act on the data.
How to connect the Gumloop Workday MCP Server
- 1
Create a free Gumloop account
Sign up at gumloop.com. No credit card required.
- 2
Add the Workday MCP server
Copy your MCP server URL from Gumloop and add it to your preferred client (Claude, Cursor, or Gumloop workflows). You'll authorize on first use.
- 3
Start using Workday in your AI workflows
That's it. Your AI agent can now download your custom reports and feed worker, roster, org, and finance data into the rest of its run. Use it inside a Gumloop automation, in Claude Desktop, or in Cursor.
Workday MCP use cases
Daily headcount and roster digest for People Ops
A People Ops analyst maintains an active-roster report in Workday. A Gumloop agent fetches it every morning, compares it to yesterday’s snapshot, summarizes new hires and departures, and posts the digest to a Slack channel so the team starts the day with current numbers.
Org-chart and reporting-structure exports for HRBPs
An HR business partner needs an up-to-date management chain before a reorg conversation. The agent pulls a supervisory-org report, extracts the manager relationships, and writes a clean reporting structure into a Google Sheet for review.
Headcount and compensation reporting for Finance
A finance analyst runs monthly headcount and comp-summary reports out of Workday. A Gumloop agent downloads both, reconciles the figures against the budget model in a spreadsheet, and drafts a variance summary for the close package.
Time-off and absence tracking for team leads
A team lead keeps a time-off balance report in Workday. The agent fetches it on request, flags anyone with low or expiring balances, and emails the lead a short summary so nothing falls through the cracks.
Employee-data sync into downstream systems for IT and RevOps
An IT or RevOps owner needs worker records kept in sync with another system. A Gumloop agent pulls the worker report, maps the fields, and pushes the roster into the target tool (via another Gumloop integration like Salesforce or Google Sheets) so directories and assignments stay current.
Why use Gumloop for Workday MCP
Skip the Basic Auth plumbing
Workday uses Integration System User credentials over HTTP Basic Auth. You still create an ISU in Workday, but with Gumloop you add its username and password once, stored securely. There are no auth headers to base64-encode, no credentials sitting in code, and no request plumbing to maintain.
Works with multiple MCP clients
Use the Workday MCP server endpoint in Claude Desktop, Cursor, or directly inside Gumloop agents. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.
Chain Workday with 100+ other integrations
Combine Workday with Google Sheets, Slack, and other MCP tools in a single AI agent. An agent can download a Workday roster report, reconcile it in Google Sheets, and post the summary to Slack, all in one run.
Enterprise-grade and scalable
Built for teams, with role-based access and dedicated support for Pro users. For details on Gumloop’s security practices, see trust.gumloop.com.
Pricing includes a free plan
You can test the Workday MCP integration on Gumloop’s free tier before committing. Paid plans start at $37/month.
