What is Semrush MCP?
The Semrush MCP server gives AI agents read access to Semrush’s SEO and digital marketing data. That means agents can pull backlink profiles, research keywords, analyze a domain’s organic and paid performance, compare competitors, and read traffic analytics. The server connects to the same Semrush data your team uses for SEO and competitive research, so an agent can assemble the analysis for you, instead of you manually exporting report after report.
SEO and competitive research involves a lot of repetitive pulling: exporting backlink lists, checking keyword difficulty one at a time, and rebuilding the same competitor and traffic reports every week. The Semrush MCP server hands that work to an AI agent that can pull the backlinks, look up the keywords, and compare the domains. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will pull the Semrush data for you.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI agents call external tools. Normally, working with the Semrush API means writing and maintaining code against its endpoints. Gumloop wraps that behind a hosted server you connect with your own Semrush API key. After you connect, you can pull backlinks, research keywords, and analyze competitors just by chatting with your AI agent in plain language.

Semrush MCP use cases
Competitive SEO audits for marketers
An agent pulls a competitor’s domain overview, organic competitors, and top pages, then summarizes where they are winning so your team can find the gaps.
Backlink monitoring for SEO teams
An agent pulls a domain’s backlinks and historical trends on a schedule, compares them to the last run, and writes the changes to a Google Sheet or posts them to Slack.
Keyword research for content teams
An agent gets keyword overview data, difficulty scores, and related and question-based keywords for a topic, then drafts a prioritized keyword brief in a Google Doc.
Paid search intel for PPC teams
An agent pulls a competitor’s ad copies, ad history, and product listing ad keywords to see what they are bidding on and how their messaging changes.
Market benchmarking for growth teams
An agent reads traffic summary and traffic rank for your domain and a set of competitors and reports relative market position, chaining Semrush with the rest of your stack.
Why use Gumloop for Semrush MCP
No code to write
Using the Semrush API directly means writing and maintaining code against its endpoints. With Gumloop you add your Semrush API key once and all 35 tools are ready for your agent to call, running on your own Semrush account and limits.
Works with multiple MCP clients
Use the same hosted Semrush MCP server in Gumloop, Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.
Chain Semrush with 100+ integrations
An agent can pull keyword or backlink data from Semrush, format it, and write it to Slack, Notion, Google Sheets, or a doc in a single run.
Enterprise-grade hosting
Gumloop hosts the server for you and returns Semrush data to your agent without keeping it in Gumloop storage. See trust.gumloop.com for security details.
No Gumloop credits
Semrush queries do not use Gumloop credits. They draw on your own Semrush API limits, so your Semrush spend stays on your Semrush bill. Gumloop has a 14-day free trial, and paid plans start at $37/month.
