What is Google Maps MCP?

The Google Maps MCP server gives AI agents access to public Google Maps place data. That means agents can search for places by location and keyword, browse places by category, discover everything in a given area, pull detailed place information, and read reviews and ratings. It turns Google Maps into a structured data source an AI agent can query, returning business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, hours, ratings, and more.

If you build prospect lists by hand, copy business details off maps one at a time, or read through reviews to gauge a location’s reputation, an AI agent can do that work for you. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will handle the Google Maps research for you.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard that gives AI agents a way to connect to external tools and services. There’s no Google account to link and no API key to manage, because the connection is built into Gumloop. After that, you search places, pull business details, and analyze reviews just by asking your AI agent in plain language.

Google Maps MCP use cases

Lead generation for sales teams and agencies

Search a category in a target city, pull each business’s name, phone, website, and rating, and have an AI agent write a clean prospect list to Google Sheets or your CRM. Sales teams get a fresh local lead list without anyone copying details off the map.

Local market research for analysts

Map every competitor in an area, then have an agent compare ratings, review counts, and categories to size up a market. Analysts get a structured view of the local landscape instead of eyeballing the map.

Review and reputation monitoring for brands

Pull reviews for your locations on a schedule, run them through an AI model for sentiment and themes, and post the highlights to Slack. Multi-location brands catch problems and praise early without reading every review.

Competitor analysis for local marketers

Pull a competitor’s place details and recent reviews, then have an AI agent summarize what customers love and complain about. Local marketers find positioning gaps grounded in real feedback.

Record enrichment for RevOps

Given a list of business URLs or place IDs, an agent can fetch full details and write addresses, phone numbers, websites, and hours back into your records. Stale local business data gets refreshed automatically.
