What is Gmail MCP?

The Gmail MCP server gives AI agents access to your Gmail inbox. That means agents can search and read emails and full threads, send replies and forwards, create and manage drafts, organize mail with labels, triage the inbox, and download attachments. The server works across your mailbox, so an AI agent can both keep up with your email and act on it.

If you spend time sorting your inbox, drafting the same kinds of replies, or copying details out of emails, an AI agent can take over a lot of that work. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will handle the email for you.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard that gives AI agents a way to connect to external tools and services. Instead of setting up a Google Cloud project, configuring OAuth scopes, and writing code against the Gmail API, you connect your Google account once. After that, you manage your inbox just by chatting with your AI agent.

What you can do with Gmail MCP on Gumloop

  • Search and read emails

Search the mailbox and read individual emails, or pull a full thread with every message in the conversation. Your AI agent can find and summarize what you need without scrolling the inbox.

  • Send, reply, and forward

Send a new email, reply to an existing thread, send a prepared draft, or forward a message to other recipients. An agent can deliver the response once you’ve approved it.

  • Create and manage drafts

Prepare emails without sending them: create drafts, update them with new content, list existing drafts, and delete the ones you don’t need. A safe way to let an agent write while you keep the final send.

  • Organize with labels

Create, update, and delete custom labels and list all labels with their IDs, so an agent can file mail the way your inbox is set up.

  • Triage your inbox

Archive emails, move them to trash, star and unstar messages, mark them read or unread, and update labels on one email or many at once with a batch update.

  • Download attachments

Pull an email’s attachment into Gumloop storage so an AI agent can read, process, or pass it to the next step in a workflow.

Gmail MCP use cases

AI inbox triage

An AI agent can scan new mail, label and archive what’s routine, star what needs attention, and surface a short list of what actually needs your attention. The inbox stays organized without manual sorting.

Draft and send replies

Point an agent at a thread and have it draft an on-brand reply for your review, then send it once you approve. Routine responses go out faster without losing your final say.

Turn emails into action

An agent can read incoming emails, extract the key details, and kick off the next step in another tool, like creating a task, a CRM record, or a row in a sheet. Requests in your inbox become tracked work.

Attachment processing

When an email arrives with an attachment, an agent can download it to Gumloop storage, process it (for example, parse an invoice or a report), and route the result, so files don’t pile up unread.

Cross-platform email workflows

Combine Gmail with Slack, Google Sheets, and other MCP tools in a single AI agent: notify a channel when an important email lands, log inquiries to a sheet, or send an email when something happens in another system.

Why use Gumloop for Gmail MCP

  • No Google Cloud project, no API setup

Building your own Gmail MCP server means setting up a Google Cloud project, configuring an OAuth consent screen and scopes, and managing tokens. Instead, Gumloop handles all of that for you. Click Connect, authorize your Google account, and you stay connected.

  • Works with multiple MCP clients

Use the Gmail MCP server endpoint in Claude Desktop, Cursor, or directly inside Gumloop. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.

  • Chain Gmail with 100+ other integrations

Combine Gmail with Slack, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, and other MCP tools in a single AI agent. Read an email, process it with an LLM, and post, log, or schedule the result automatically.

  • Enterprise-grade and scalable

Built for teams, with role-based permissions and dedicated support for Pro users. The Gmail MCP respects your account’s access, so an agent only reaches the mail your account can.

  • Pricing includes a free plan

You can test the Gmail MCP integration on Gumloop’s free tier before committing. Paid plans start at $37/month.
