Tools (13)

  • Welcome

Get a welcome message from Carta MCP. Quick-start suggestions are grouped into seven capability categories sourced from the Plugin Architecture doc, filtered by the user's role. Pass ``role`` to filter to the relevant categories when the user identifies their role (e.g. "for a CFO", "I'm a CCO", "fundraising lead"). Free-text values like "CFO", "fund accountant", "deal team", "IR", "compliance officer", "general partner", or "fundraising" all resolve to the right category set. Leave empty to show all. Always returns the full text response alongside structured_content — the MCP App view, when rendered, is supplementary rather than a replacement for the text.

  • Get Current User

Get the currently authenticated Carta user's profile. Returns user details including id, email, and full name. Call this first to identify who you are and get your user ID.

  • List Accounts

List all companies and organizations the current user has access to. Returns the same accounts shown in the Carta account switcher, including corporations (companies, funds) and organizations (portfolios, investment firms, law firms). Each account has a name, id, accountType, and statusTags. The id field uses the format "corporation_pk:<id>" or "organization_pk:<id>". Use the numeric part as corporation_id in other tools.

  • Cap Table Chart

Show a visual cap table summary with ownership breakdown by share class. Displays an interactive stacked bar chart (in desktop clients) or an ASCII chart (in terminal clients) showing fully diluted shares and amount raised per share class. Use this whenever the user asks about: - Cap table overview, summary, or snapshot - Ownership distribution or breakdown - Share class breakdown or equity structure - Fully diluted share counts - Amount raised by share class - Board deck equity overview

  • List Contexts

Show which firms you have access to in Carta Fund Admin and which one is currently active. For Carta staff, searches the fund-admin API by name, UUID, or Carta ID. For non-staff, lists firms from your account permissions (search args ignored).

  • Set Context

Switch to a different firm. All subsequent queries will use this firm's data.

  • Fetch

Execute a named Carta read command.

  • Discover

List available Carta commands or views across all domains. Commands follow domain:verb:noun naming. Use fetch() to execute one. Views follow domain:view:noun naming. Use view_remote() or view_static() to render one.

  • Mutate

Execute a write command (POST, PATCH, PUT, DELETE) against Carta. Commands follow domain:verb:noun naming. Use discover(scope="write") to see available write commands.

  • View Remote

Render an interactive Carta view backed by a Module Federation remote. Use `discover(scope="view")` first to see what's available. Each view entry includes a `kind` field — `"mf"` views route through this tool, `"static"` views route through `view_static`.

  • View Static

Render an interactive Carta view backed by server-bundled HTML. Use for views authored as self-contained HTML/CSS/JS (``kind="static"`` in `discover(scope="view")`). Use `view_remote` for Module Federation (``kind="mf"``) views.

  • Search Tools

Search for tools using natural language. Returns matching tool definitions ranked by relevance, in the same format as list_tools.

What is Carta MCP?

The Carta MCP server gives AI agents access to your Carta cap table, equity, and stakeholder data. That means agents can identify your account and the companies and firms you can reach, render a visual cap table with ownership by share class, discover the read and write commands available across Carta’s domains, run read commands to pull data, and run write commands to make changes. It works across cap tables, equity, stakeholders, and Carta Fund Admin.

If you manage a cap table, answering routine questions can still take up quite a bit of time. Instead of opening Carta to check ownership percentages, exporting cap tables into spreadsheets for a board deck, or manually switching between firms to answer the same questions, why not try an AI agent? Just ask the agent for stats on ownership breakdown, or to make the changes you want, and your AI agent will pull cap tables and make updates for you.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard that gives AI agents a way to connect to external tools and services. Instead of calling the Carta API yourself, managing tokens, and parsing responses, you connect your Carta account to Gumloop once. After that, you can work with your cap table and equity data just by chatting with your AI agent.

What you can do with Carta MCP on Gumloop

  • See your accounts and firms

Identify the current user and list the companies and organizations you can access, the same accounts shown in Carta’s account switcher, so an agent knows exactly whose data it’s working with.

  • Visualize your cap table

Render a visual cap table summary with ownership broken down by share class as an interactive chart. Agents can show who owns what, without a manual export.

  • Discover available commands and views

List the read and write commands and interactive views across Carta’s domains, so an agent can find the right operation before it runs anything.

  • Read your Carta data

Run read commands to pull cap table, equity, and stakeholder data across domains, so an agent can answer ownership and equity questions on request.

  • Make changes with write commands

Run write commands to create, update, or remove records in Carta, so an agent can keep equity and stakeholder data current. The specific objects you can change reflect your Carta plan and permissions.

  • Work across Fund Admin firms

See which firms you have access to in Carta Fund Admin and switch the active firm, so an agent can run the same query or update across each fund you manage.

  • Render interactive Carta views

Open interactive Carta views backed by the platform, so an agent can surface a richer, in-client view when a chart or table isn’t enough.

Carta MCP use cases

Board deck prep for founders and finance teams

Before a board meeting, a Gumloop agent can pull the current cap table, render the ownership breakdown by share class, and drop the summary into a Google Doc or Slides. Founders walk into meetings with a current picture instead of a stale export.

Instant ownership answers for operators

When someone asks how a new round or option grant changes ownership, an agent can read the cap table and answer with the numbers. Get accurate responses without opening Carta or rebuilding views.

Fund admin reporting for VC firms

A firm that manages several funds can have an agent switch between Fund Admin contexts, run the same read command in each, and assemble a combined report, so ops stops repeating the same steps per fund.

Stakeholder data upkeep for legal and ops

When stakeholder details change, an agent can run the appropriate write command to update the record and confirm the change. Equity data stays clean without manual data entry.

Cross-tool equity agents

Combine Carta with Google Sheets, Slack, and your data warehouse in a single agent. Pull cap table data, write a snapshot to a sheet for finance, and post ownership highlights to a channel, so equity data reaches the tools your team already uses.
