What is Ahrefs MCP?
The Ahrefs MCP server gives AI agents read access to your Ahrefs SEO data. That means agents can pull backlink profiles, look up domain and keyword metrics, track rankings, read site audit issues, and monitor how AI chatbots mention your brand through Brand Radar. It connects to the same SEO data your team already pays for, so an agent can answer questions about your search performance instead of you exporting reports from the Ahrefs dashboard.
SEO work involves a lot of pulling and pasting: exporting backlink lists, checking keyword difficulty one at a time, and rebuilding the same competitor and rank reports every week. The Ahrefs MCP server hands that work to an AI agent that can pull the backlinks, look up the keywords, and assemble the report. Describe what you need, and your AI agent will pull the SEO data for you.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard that lets AI agents call external tools. Normally, using the Ahrefs API means managing an API token and writing code against the v3 endpoints. Gumloop wraps that behind a hosted server: add your Ahrefs API key once. After that, you can pull backlinks, research keywords, and track rankings just by chatting with your AI agent.

Ahrefs MCP use cases
Backlink monitoring for SEO teams
An agent pulls new and broken backlinks for your domain on a schedule, compares them to the last run, and posts the changes to Slack, so link gains and losses get caught early.
Competitive research for marketers
An agent looks up a competitor’s organic keywords, top pages, and referring domains, then summarizes where they are winning so your team can find the gaps.
Keyword research for content teams
An agent pulls difficulty and volume for a seed list, gathers related terms and search suggestions, and drafts a prioritized keyword brief in a Google Doc.
AI visibility tracking for brand teams
Using Brand Radar, an agent tracks your share of voice across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude each week and reports which pages they cite, so you can see how your brand shows up in AI answers.
Rank tracking reports for agencies
An agent pulls rank tracker data and competitor positions for each client project and writes a formatted weekly report into a Google Sheet, chaining Ahrefs with the rest of your stack.
Why use Gumloop for Ahrefs MCP
Add your key once, no code
Using the Ahrefs API directly means managing an API token and writing code against the v3 endpoints. With Gumloop you add your Ahrefs API key one time and it is stored securely. No env vars, token management, or code necessary. You will need an Ahrefs subscription with API access for the key to work.
Works with multiple MCP clients
Use the same hosted Ahrefs MCP server in Gumloop, Claude, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients. Same server URL, works with any MCP client.
Chain Ahrefs with 100+ integrations
An agent can pull backlink or keyword data from Ahrefs, format it, and write it to Slack, Notion, Google Sheets, or a doc in a single run.
Enterprise-grade hosting
Gumloop hosts the server for you and stores your API key securely, and your Ahrefs data is fetched and returned without being kept in Gumloop storage. See trust.gumloop.com for security details.
Free to start
Gumloop has a free tier so you can try the Ahrefs MCP server at no cost. Paid plans start at $37/month.
