Agents now have inboxes

Email your Gumloop agents the same way you’d email a teammate. The agent will read, reply, and do work, just like it would in chat or Slack.

Email is still where most work happens (whether we like it or not). People forward attachments, loop in stakeholders, send updates to mailing lists, and chase replies.

And now, every Gumloop agent can have its own email inbox: give it an email alias and you (or anyone you allow) can email that agent the way you'd email a teammate. The agent reads the message, takes whatever actions it needs across your connected apps, and replies in the same email thread.

Here are some things your agents can do with an email inbox:

  • Forward inbound RFPs and security questionnaires: when a prospect's procurement team emails you a 200-question security questionnaire, forward it to ourcompany-rfp-bot@gumloopagents.com. It pre-fills the standard sections from past responses and your trust center, and flags the questions that need a human.
  • Forward cold inbound for triage: forward emails from people you don’t recognize (prospects, recruiters, journalists, investors etc.) to who-is-this-cold-inbound@gumloopagents.com and get back a dossier explaining who they are, what they want, if anyone at your company has talked to them before, and a suggested response.
  • Forward vendor proposals and contracts: loop in vendor-redlines@gumloopagents.com and get back a redline summary, a risk analysis cross-referenced against your standard MSA, and the contract uploaded to the right Google Drive folder.
  • Forward inbound resumes for a hiring read: forward a candidate’s resume or a recruiter’s intro to ourcompany-hiring-screen@gumloopagents.com. Get back a fit score against the JD, a summary of their relevant experience, and suggested screening questions tailored to gaps in their background.

Because the agent is just another participant on the email thread, anyone you've shared it with can CC it, forward to it, or follow along on a thread it's part of. It works with the people you already work with, in the place you already work.

Agent in an inbox
Forward an email to your agent and it'll do the work. (Yes, even security questionnaires.)

Setting up and using an email inbox

In any agent, open the Channels tab and enable Email Inbox. Pick an alias (as long as it’s not already taken), and anyone you've shared the agent with on Gumloop can email it.

Email inboxes
Enabling an email inbox for an agent takes only one click.

The agent uses the same instructions and skills it already has. The email simply becomes another way to talk to it, alongside the Gumloop chat UI and any triggers you've configured. Attachments come through too, which means your agents can process the PDFs, images, and spreadsheets you’ve been sent.

Threading works the way you'd expect. Replies stay in the same thread, so you can have an actual back-and-forth with your agent. If you loop a teammate in mid-thread, the agent sees them and treats them as part of the conversation. If your team replies, the agent reads the new context before acting.

Permissions stay tight. Only addresses with access to the agent on Gumloop can trigger the agent, and the sender's email has to belong to a real Gumloop account. Anyone else who emails the inbox gets a polite decline.

If you want to try it, open any agent and look for the Email Inbox channel in the agent's settings. We'd love to see what you build with it!
